Surveys and Campaigns

BBC TV Licence - Over 75s

27/08/2020 - I am sorry that the BBC – not the Government – has decided to end the concession for people aged over 75 on TV licences.

Israel Annexation Plans

27/08/2020 - I very much share people's concerns about annexation in the West Bank and more broadly this is an area I am very interested in.

Animal Cruelty - Minimum Sentencing

27/08/2020 - There is no place in this country for animal cruelty, and we must ensure that those who abuse animals are met with the full force of the law.

Super Trawlers

27/08/2020 - I share constituents’ concern about the protection and health of British waters and I am fully aware of the impact that super trawlers have on marine life. Our waters are a precious natural resource and they must be managed carefully.

Birds of Prey

27/08/2020 - All wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and there are strong penalties in place for offences committed against birds of prey and other wildlife, with most wildlife crimes carrying up to an unlimited fine and/or a six-month custodial sentence.

Persecution of Christians

27/08/2020 - The UK has always championed freedom of religion or belief for everyone.

Badger Cull & Bovine TB

16/08/2020 The UK’s bovine TB eradication strategy is founded in science. It applies the lessons of previous attempts to control the disease, as well as evidence from other countries around the world.

Fix Care

25/07/2020 - I believe we must all receive dignified care in old age. With an ageing population, this is one of the biggest challenges our country faces. I support the Government’s commitment to making sure that the most vulnerable in society gain the support they need.

Email Campaigns

Each day I receive several hundred emails and letters, and while I am keen to understand the views of constituents on issues which are important to you, I have to prioritise how I respond to them.

Many of the emails I receive are template campaign emails about Government policy generated by organisations or lobby groups. While I try to respond directly to as many as I can as quickly as I can, I cannot prioritise this over assisting constituents with casework queries – people who are asking for my help with an issue affecting them urgently.

I do take note of all the points made in the course of these campaigns, and I regularly discuss issues with charities or organisations when they raise issues of concern, as well as with Ministers.

I will collate on this page my response to the issues raised by click-and-send campaigns as they arise, and I hope the information these responses contain will be useful to you. Please see the links to the right.

EDMs and Petitions

Please note that I do not sign Early Day Motions as these are never debated or voted on in Parliament, and cannot bind Government policy in any way.

While I am sometimes contacted about signing petitions, there is a process for raising these in Parliament, and only those generated by the official process can be considered. There is no method for bringing non-Parliamentary petitions to the official attention of Parliament or the Government.
