I had intended my mail to you on Sunday to be my "last word" before the election, but on reflection I just wanted to share a few thoughts on how the campaign has gone. I have fought a positive campaign, based on my "Plan for Portsmouth", and talking about those elements of national Conservative campaigning which are particularly relevant to us here in Portsmouth.
I've been disappointed at the negativity of some of my opponents, in particular the Lib Dems. They have made a number of personal attacks on me, based on a time when I was raising my family and had to spend some time in the US because my husband was working there. I can tell from talking to voters that these attacks have, if anything, turned voters away from the Lib Dems.
I hope, if you are still making up your mind, that you will support me. We need to ensure that the benefits of a growing economy are felt by everyone. What happens in this seat will determine who is in Downing Street on Friday. Not only do you decide who your MP is, you decide who our next Prime Minister will be.
Only the Conservative Party can sustain economic growth, only economic growth can fund improving public services, and only a vote for the Conservatives can guarantee that David Cameron is returned as Prime Minister.
If you support me tomorrow, I will work hard for everyone in Portsmouth after tomorrow, regardless of their politics. Election campaigns can be bruising affairs, but what matters afterwards is that your MP gets on with the job of fighting for their constituency.
Thank you and good luck!
Best wishes
