Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond has read The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf to children from Horndean Infant School for World Book Day.
All pupils able to go to school during lockdown attended in their favourite book character costumes to listen to the story of Ferdinand the bull who would rather sniff flowers than take part in bull fights.
The book is a favourite of Flick and her four now grown-up children.
“Thank you to Horndean Infant School for inviting me to read one of my favourite children’s books – it was a real honour,” said Flick.
“I was disappointed not to be able to do so in person but I hope the pupils managed to enjoy it anyway.
“World Book Day is a great event that I think gives children all over the country a lasting love of storytelling and books.”
Headteacher Jacqui Ralphson said: “It was lovely of Flick to find the time to read to the whole school today on World Book Day.
“Here at Horndean Infant School, we have a passion for children becoming lifelong readers and this journey starts with reading high quality texts to motivate, encourage and open up a whole new world for children to lose themselves in.
“Having Flick demonstrate her love of books gave the children a lovely experience and afterwards they were buzzing looking at the book she had chosen.”
