Three local organisations have been congratulated by Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond after they secured funding worth more than £60,000 from Veolia’s Landfill Communities Fund.

The fund has given HOPE Portsmouth £21,541 to continue the next phase of the renovation of the King Church’s 100-year-old community hall on Somers Road to turn it into a venue for community activities and events.

Portsmouth Disability Forum has also secured £10,468 to enable repairs to windows and the installation of a new boiler at its HQ, the Frank Sorrell Centre, on Prince Albert Road in Southsea.

The John Pounds Community Trust was also awarded £30,589, to fund the installation of fitness equipment in the John Pounds Centre on Queen Street. The equipment will give everyone, including disabled people, the chance to exercise and keep fit in a well-equipped gym.

‘I am delighted that these local organisations have secured funding. It represents a significant opportunity for them to upgrade their services and facilities which will hugely benefit local communities across Portsmouth South,’ said Flick.

‘The bidding process for this fund is very tough. I want to congratulate these organisations for putting forward strong cases for funding and I look forward to visiting soon to see the improvements in person.’
