Flick visited Airbus at Broad Oak Business Park to learn about the substantial opportunities the company gives to young people. Airbus offer a graduate training programme, a three-year scientific and technical apprenticeship, and an internship programme for second-year graduates.
Flick said: "These are the sort of opportunities that will make a big difference to young people by giving them on-the-job training, skills and experience, and it means that the UK will have the future skills to compete in the world in areas such as satellite design and manufacture. It's really super that an employer of such international standing is in Portsmouth and that it is investing in future generations. It’s now my desire to see more women applying for these excellent schemes in the future and I know that Airbus is also very keen to recruit more."
Flick met a number of apprentices, a member of the graduate training programme, and learnt about the 30 STEM Ambassadors Airbus have on their workforce who go out to local schools.
