Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond has voted in favour of treating the actions of Daesh against Christians and Yazidis in Syria and Iraq as genocide. The motion in the House of Commons today called on the United Nations Security Council to bring members of Daesh, also known as Islamic State, to justice for their crimes that have included mass killings, summary executions and sexual slavery. “This motion sends a message to the world and anyone thinking of joining Daesh or any other groups that the UK Parliament considers it a faction that commits genocide and, if people take part in these barbarities, they will be pursued and tried for their crimes,” said Flick. “In the 21st century there is simply nowhere to hide from international justice and this motion makes it clear Britain should play a big role in bringing anyone who commits these sorts of crimes to justice.” Similar motions have been passed this year at the European Parliament and US Congress.
