Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond has praised two Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) for treating more cancer patients during the pandemic.
South East Hampshire CCG saw a 9% increase in patients on its 62-day pathway for the disease last autumn when compared to 2019 and West Hampshire CCG recorded a 5% increase.
South East Hampshire also met its 62-day target to start treatment in 88% of cases - up 7% on 2019 figures, with West Hampshire managing it 81% of the time - down 2%. These were relatively good performances when compared to other CCGs.
“I am really pleased these two CCGs that cover Meon Valley have done a good job treating people with cancer during such a challenging time,” said Flick.
“The NHS has been under tremendous pressure because of the pandemic but these figures show that cancer treatment has been maintained and, in some respects, improved and I would like to thank everyone who has clearly worked hard to manage this.
“In normal times this would be impressive, but over these last months, it is excellent and it has undoubtedly saved lives.”
