Today I spoke in the Opposition Day debate where the opposition tabled a motion that would set up a select committee to "consider reforming the tax status of private schools in order to raise funding for measures to increase educational standards across the state sector". The movers of the motion seem to have forgotten about the existence of the Education Committee which I am honoured to be a member of. This motion completely distracts from the real issues in our schools where we should be focussing on children's outcomes, rather than being obsessed by the ideologies that have no interest on how children perform in schools or the choice every parent should have. This was a wasted opportunity by the opposition so I am pleased it was voted down.
