Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond has thanked staff during a visit to Waterlooville Health Centre after learning more than 5000 Covid vaccinations have been given there over the last month.
Flick visited the facility in Dryden Close on Friday to see first-hand the operation to inoculate the top four priority groups - care home residents, over 70s, health and care workers and the clinically extremely vulnerable - by mid-February.
She met with some of the 22 people working in the clinic, which includes six vaccinators, two nurses making up the vaccines, two doctors plus administrators and volunteers who help people in the car park and entrance.
Dr Duncan Pickup showed Flick around after she undertook a lateral flow test for Covid. The centre is able to use both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs and is part of a group of three centres, which also includes Hayling Island and Emsworth.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers who are doing an amazing job delivering the vaccines to these vulnerable members of our community,” said Flick. “Everyone involved in this operation should be very proud indeed.
“It’s certainly an efficient operation with a constant stream of people - all socially distanced - getting their jab. I can think of no more important job in our country at the moment because it is saving lives and helping chart a path out of lockdown.
“Crucially, I was told every vaccine is used and there is a list of people that can turn up at the last minute if any doses are left over at the end of the day.
“It’s also important to stress that people need to wait to be contacted by the NHS for an appointment. When it is the right time people will be contacted to make their appointments.”
