Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond has joined with Eastleigh MP Paul Holmes to meet with Whiteley residents opposed to a giant new mobile phone mast.
The pair went to Leafy Lane last week to see the site and talk with residents who strongly object to the proposed mast on the grounds it is incompatible with the surrounding area, would be unsightly and overwhelming.
They want the mast to go into the commercial park nearby and fear it would be dangerous as a new special school is set to be built with increased traffic an issue too.
Nearly 20 residents had contacted Flick and she invited Paul as the area will be in his new constituency following the election.
“Feelings are quite running high about this plan to site a huge mast in a residential area,” said Flick.
“It was good to meet residents to hear about their concerns with Paul as this bit of Meon Valley will fall into the new Hamble Valley constituency and it’s important to make him aware of some of the local issues.
“This proposed mast is definitely in the wrong place so we will work hard to make sure it goes elsewhere.”
Flick explained there was some confusion as to whether this proposal needs full planning permission. Whiteley Town Council seem to think it does but Winchester City Council disagrees.
Flick added she would be finding out what the legal position is.
