  • Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond performs opening
  • Branch opens earlier midweek
  • Extra currencies now available on demand
  • Car tax renewal service added
  • Wide range of Post Office services on offer

Modernised Albert Road Post Office has been officially opened by Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond and her husband Hereward Drummond, who is a regular customer at the Southsea branch.

Post Office services are now provided from two brand new full-screened counters at the branch at 114 Albert Road, Southsea, PO4 0JS. The branch was closed for 12 days for the refurbishment of the Post Office.

The branch is now open Monday to Friday: 8am – 5.30pm; Saturday: 9am – 12.30pm. This is an extra five hours a week as the branch now opens earlier mid-week to make it more convenient for customers to visit.

Car tax renewal has also been added to the services available at the branch. Previously Albert Road could offer Euros on demand, but that has been enhanced to offer the six most popular currencies.

Postmaster Rajinder Hothi and his wife Ranjit have run Albert Road Post Office and the popular card and stationery shop for the past 23 years.

Mrs Drummond, said: “My husband and I know first-hand how important Albert Road Post Office is to the local community. We wanted to thank Mr and Mrs Hothi for their loyal service and to congratulate the couple on the improvements that they have made. The branch looks fresh and new. The earlier opening hours are great for people with busy lives.  The extra services are convenient extra services.

Mr Hothi, said: “The Post Office now looks, lighter, brighter and more modern. The longer opening hours make it easier for customers to pop in on their way to work or study. The extra car tax renewal and more currencies on demand is good news for our customers.”

Albert Road Post Office will be delighted to welcome customers to the newly refurbished branch. Local residents and small business customers will be able to access a wide range of Post Office and mails services, including international parcels, Special Delivery, Local Collect and home shopping returns, make cash withdrawals from a Post Office Card Account, send funds abroad using Moneygram, pay bills, buy holiday money, get insurance, mortgages and savings and top up mobile phones. As the traditional banking network declines, customers for the majority (95%) of UK banks can use their post office for online banking cash deposits and withdrawals and bill payments.

David Gold, Area Manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. We are confident this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”
