The Government is launching this call for evidence to help assess the options around parking charges (i.e. the amount that can be charged for an alleged breach of the terms and conditions of the car park, as distinct from the parking tariff payable at car parks that are not free) and debt recovery fees. All relevant evidence is invited to strengthen understanding of the implications of the options for drivers, registered vehicle keepers, operators and landowners alike.
The Code of Practice aims to:
- Create consistency across the private parking system;
- Ensure fairness for drivers, registered vehicle keepers and landowners; and
- Increase transparency in the way the private parking industry operates.
The call for evidence will run to 24th September 2023, following which further consideration will be invited from the Regulatory Policy Committee and a further consultation is planned on policy options, informed by a final Impact Assessment.
Hopefully the Government will be able to resolve this situation in a more equitable way, particularly for those who accidentally incur a penalty.
Thanking you in anticipation of your assistance.
