Flick Drummond Opens Internet Safety Course in Portsmouth Ahead of Safer Internet Day Tomorrow
Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond has opened a cyberspace safety course for women in the city ahead of Safer Internet Day tomorrow (Tuesday).
Flick went to the Madani Academy in Fratton Road to meet people using the initiative, which is organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre to highlight online safety and combat abusive behaviour.
The organisation works with schools and community groups to promote online safety and Flick was invited to open one of their events.
“The internet really has changed our lives for the better, but sadly, also for the worse with major worries about online abuse and sites promoting eating disorders and suicide,” said Flick.
“There are also many scams out there and when I opened the course I talked about the importance of not trusting links in emails and never to trust an email which says it is a bank asking for pin or account details.
“Internet Safety Day really ties in with this great work locally and I hope that awareness days like this will help the drive to stop abusive content and scams on the internet.
“It was a real pleasure to open the event at the academy and to meet women who were learning how to be safe online."
