Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond is calling on schools, businesses and community groups to help tidy up their local area ahead of the Queen’s 90th Birthday on 21 April.
The Clean for The Queen Initiative is bringing together all the anti-litter organisations in the UK and aims to get people involved in Britain’s largest litter pick.
Community groups including parish councils, residents’ associations, girl guides and brownies and scout and sub troops are being encouraged to organise their own litter pick or clean up in the coming weeks or over weekend over 4-6 March.
'Litter is a growing issue in the country and I was involved with the Pompey Litter Pickers group before I was elected to Parliament,” said Flick.
'So this is a great initiative and also a great reason to resurrect the Pompey Litter Pickers and get out onto the streets of Portsmouth and do my bit to make the city cleaner.
'Although the big litter pick will take place over 4, 5 and 6 March, people can get involved whenever they like. It is the support and action people are taking, and not the dates, which are important.'
