A Hampshire MP has signed a statement of support asking governments across the world to stop gender-based violence.
Conservative MP for Meon Valley, Flick Drummond joined scores of other British MPs in signing the statement on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which was on Wednesday.
The statement calls for governments to protect funding for programmes to tackle gender-based violence both at home and abroad.
It also asks governments to work together to support international bodies such as the United Nations in protecting women worldwide.
The statement also highlights the need for more women in decision making roles in tackling gender-based violence.
The UN estimates that in the 12 months before the pandemic, 242 million women and girls were subject to sexual or physical violence – with numbers expected to have risen.
