Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond has welcomed a £170,000 government investment in local sports facilities.
Seven organisations and clubs in the constituency will benefit from the latest round of national funding totalling £68 million.
The money will be used to improve multi-sports grassroots facilities such as creating or upgrading changing rooms, grass pitches and 3G football turf pitches and pavilions, along with putting in floodlights, fencing and improved disabled access.
Clanfield Football Club, Horndean Hawks FC, Waterlooville Social Club FC, Whiteley Town Council, Hawks community youth, Denmead Youth FC and Shedfield Parish Council have received the cash.
Flick has visited many of the places to benefit including Shedfield visit to see the community centre and changing rooms and Whiteley Town Council.
“Getting more people active in our communities is a win for us all with tangible health benefits, improved mental health plus the added joy of playing sport together and being part of a team,” said Flick.
“But to do this we need a wide range of facilities, so this money for communities across Meon Valley is welcome and will do much to increase participation in sports across ages, backgrounds and gender.”
At least 50 per cent per cent of investment will be spent in underprivileged areas to give as many people as possible the opportunity to take part in sport.
The programme will also ensure particular focus on increasing participation among underrepresented groups such as women and girls, and those with a disability.
