Two of Hampshire’s prominent food and drink businesses went to Downing Street recently with Meon Valley MP Flick Drummond for the Food and Farming Champions Reception.
Owners of Jude’s Ice Cream Alex and Chow Mezger based in Twyford and one of the directors of the Flowerpots Brewery in Cheriton, Rupert Boissier, all went through the famous black door for the event after they were nominated by Flick to attend.
They met the environment secretary Steve Barclay and other food and farming champions from across the UK who were recognised for the work they do in their communities.
Prior to the reception, Flick took Alex and Chow around the Palace of Westminster to see where their ice cream was on sale. She also took Rupert to Strangers’ Bar to see if his ales could go on sale there.
Alex and Chow said: “It was a proud moment for Jude's Ice Cream, as we had the honour of visiting 10 Downing Street and Parliament alongside Flick.
“We enjoyed hearing the secretary of state commit to supporting British food producers and farmers, whilst protecting our beautiful landscape.
“We also saw first-hand where our ice cream is served within Parliament, which is testimony to the hard work of our team and the quality of our flavours.
“We are grateful for the recognition of Jude’s efforts to create ice cream that tastes amazing whilst treading as lightly as possible on the planet.”
Rupert said: “It was an honour to visit Downing Street and meet with the secretary of state to discuss our shared passion for the UK’s food and drinks industry at this important event.
“Thank you to Flick for nominating us and for showing such a continued interest in our business and in our views.”
Flick added: “I was really pleased to take these well-known and successful entrepreneurs to Downing Street.
“All are passionate about their work and it was brilliant to see them recognised in this way.”
