Today we celebrate #InternationalWomensDay !
Today is a chance to celebrate women all across the world. Lovely to see so many female Conservative MPs in Parliament today. We have definitely come a long way, but we need more!
For the last several days, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London has been receiving information about the readiness of UK-based people of good will to support humanitarian aid efforts in Poland for those affected by the war in Ukraine.
This day encourages children to see reading as a superpower thag helps them to understand difficult things, to find comfort and kindness and to explore the world around us!
I would like to personally thank all of you who have offered support for the people of Ukraine so far.
Going forward it is important that this support is given in the right way.
Today I also attended the launch of Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil appeal.
Marie Curie do amazing work to provide better lives for this with any terminal illness. I wore my daffodil in PMQs to show my support for all the nurses and their work in helping people.
Last night I went to the #CatchupwithCancer drop in and had a look at the figures of those who are waiting more than 62 days for treatment after an urgent referral. Nationally we are at 22% which is low compared to other areas of the country but it is still way too high.
Yesterday I pledged my support, along with other MPs, to the people of Ukraine through signing this book of solidarity. It is great we have the Ukrainian Ambassador in Parliament today and I hope to meet him later. My thoughts are with all the people in Ukraine at this time.
Today I asked Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, about how we encourage further democracies to impose sanctions on Russia following their unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. We must get as many countries as possible to work together to stop this war.
